About Combined Touch and Our Day Centre

Who We Are

Supporting areas in and around South Shields, Hebburn and Jarrow.

Combined Touch Day Centre is committed to providing quality care and support for people with dementia, as well as their friends and family. The centre is a place where loved ones can experience companionship and activity during their visit with us. Friends and relatives can be certain that their loved one will be looked after by caring, competent and well-trained staff and volunteers in a homely atmosphere.

We like to help and encourage service users to live full, interesting and independent lives. We prefer to meet everybody before they come to the Centre, this helps us to assess how we can support them while they are attending.

We value each service user as an individual and try to keep rules and regulations to a minimum. We are committed to our staff and volunteers, and to their training and development. This provides a stable and professional team dedicated to our principle of person-centred care.

Activities With Combined Touch

What We Do

Keeping busy

At Combined Touch Day Centre, we provide care from Tuesday to Friday between 10 am and 2 pm.  We will collect and return everybody, or the family/carer can opt to bring and collect themselves.

We welcome retired people to socialise and join in any of our activities or simply come for a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. Come and see us, check our notice board, or email or phone us for information on events and activities. Follow our blog or contact us on Facebook, by email, telephone, or in person.

At Combined Touch we provide a variety of activities, however, each person is treated an an individual and we try to tailor their visit to their past and present likes and dislikes.

We always encourage confidence and relaxation and are always looking for new ways to engage our service users while developing their mental and physical wellbeing.

Our days are structured but not regimented, and our service users are encouraged to use their minds and bodies in both physical and mental exercises, chatter, dance and music.

Activities at Combined Touch

Some of our activities

The activities listed below are not exhaustive as we aim to provide enjoyable tasks with each visit as we get to know our service users better. Because we are a small centre, we maintain the personal knowledge needed to enable service users to have an enjoyable experience each time they visit us.

We provide a variety of activities, including:

Meaningful occupations: washing up, ironing, laundry and caring for pets.

Entertainment and exercise: music, sing-a-longs/singing together, poetry (reading/listening).

Getting out and about: day trips and visits to places of interest. This is dependant on group/individual health and ability and weather.

Board games and other leisurely pursuits: bingo, monopoly, scrabble, dominoes, connect four, card games, jenga and jigsaws.

Crafts: knitting, peg weaving, art (painting and drawing) and other crafts.

Please contact us for further information or check out our blog or Facebook.

If transport is required to enable a service user to attend Combined Touch Day Centre, this can be arranged – please just get in touch.
