Domiciliary Care and Support At Home

How We Help

Supporting People to Stay At Home

We can support people living with dementia in their own homes with aspects such as:

Housing (moving and organising)

  • Moving house and downsizing – an extra pair of hands on moving day, especially if family members aren’t available.
  • Moving to a residential setting or to live with family.
  • Help when having to move unexpectedly or in a crisis.
  • Decluttering and organising (moving furniture and clearing items).

Support to live in your existing home

  • Companionship (daytime and evening).
  • Domiciliary Care including medication administration (where required)
  • Trips to hospital, doctors’ surgery and social occasions.
  • Shopping either with you or on your behalf, being available to unpack shopping deliveries
  • Housework
  • Assistance to declutter and organise.

Combined Touch will plan the package of support with the individual so it is tailored and stress-free. It will be based on your budget, time frame, priorities and needs.

We will support you through massive changes in your life (such as moving) and provide both physical labour and emotional support, with caring and honest professionalism.

It is down to the individual which of our many services they choose. Our flexibility and personal touch allows you to select the parts of the process you need, giving you the option to add additional services as and when required. We’re ready to handle all aspects of a house move or specific tasks, whether big or small.

Our services are available seven days a week. covering Domiciliary Care, Personal Care, House Keeping and a range of other activities at our Day Centre.

Domiciliary Care

With domiciliary care you or your loved one can continue to stay in the place you feel most comfortable.  Combined Touch provides ongoing support that is completely built around your needs and routines.

What is domiciliary care?

It is care that is provided to people who still live in their own homes but need or want additional support with activities, including household tasks, personal care and any other activity which allows a person to maintain both independence and quality of life.

Many families are opting for domiciliary care, also known as “care at home” because it puts them back in control of the support they receive.  With one-to-one personal attention from fifteen minute to thirty minute visits several times a day to one, two, or three hour visits once (or more) a week, or up to several visits a day or overnight support, our care plan will be tailored to individual requirements.

You may be starting to find it difficult to complete different areas of your routine and want some support while staying in familiar surroundings.  Regular home visits from a fully trained care worker, from thirty minutes through to several hours a day, can be arranged to help you with a wide range of everyday tasks, including:

  • Personal and continence care
  • Managing medication
  • Helping to mobilise in and around the home
  • Household tasks
  • Meal preparation

Domiciliary care offers a valuable source of companionship.  Seeing a familiar face every day, or a couple of times a week, brings comfort, a feeling of safety and friendship, this form of care can bring benefits to a person’s mental health and sense of isolation, as a care worker will be able to provide much needed companionship.  Care assistants are not just trained in delivering the physical aspects of care, but also offering emotional support, encouragement and reassurance.

Domiciliary care is for anyone who wants to stay at home while receiving the treatment they need.  This type of care can be beneficial to people of all ages and can include recuperation, convalescence and rehabilitation.

We also work closely alongside other professionals such as district nurses, doctors, social workers to make sure that we are able to deliver care which meets each person’s specific needs, whether it be disability, dementia or companionship.

We provide each person with a bespoke care package tailored to unique needs and each client will have their own team of carers who will help them to achieve their or their loved one’s personal needs and wishes, while supporting them through their personalised care plan.

Each plan is flexible and unique and all existing routines are taken into account whether it be a certain nightly/overnight care routine or a medication schedule or even a hobby .

If for whatever reason something needs to be changed, the care staff will still be there to help and will be as flexible as possible when delivering care.

At Combined Touch we believe in the importance of a continuous service and the same familiar faces, especially when it comes to personal care.

Personal Care

Personal Care is a broad term used to refer to supporting a person with personal hygiene and toileting together with dressing and maintaining your personal appearance.

It can cover, but is not limited to:

  • Bathing and showering, including bed baths
  • Applying lotions and creams as required
  • Dressing and undressing/getting ready for bed
  • Oral hygiene
  • Applying make up and hair care
  • Support with shaving
  • Foot care, especially for diabetics who need to be extra vigilant with their feet
  • Helping or prompting to the toilet, including using a commode or bed pan
  • Changing continence pads together with cleaning intimate areas
  • Support moving position in bed to stretch and prevent bed sores.

In getting to know each person as an individual the care plan will outline individual likes and dislikes, preferred hygiene or beauty products.

Each carer is expertly trained to provide personal care in a way which is discreet and respectful of personal boundaries.  They undertake extensive training where they learn the importance of enabling dignity and independence at all times which can also include promoting independence where possible and feasible.

Like all forms of care, support with personal care is built completely around individual needs and personal routines and preferences, for example if a person prefers to wash before breakfast or have a bath before going to bed, a carer will happily follow their schedule, letting them live the way they are used to and want to continue.

House Keeping

Housekeeping is offered both at regular times and as a one off support with the following tasks:

Cleaning services and vacuuming

A clean house always feels welcoming and comfortable and our services can help to make this happen.  We are able to carry out tasks such as washing dishes, vacuuming both carpeted and wooden flooring, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, oven cleaning, dusting and polishing.

Laundry and ironing

A large pile of laundry and ironing is enough to put anyone under pressure so why not relieve this by employing the help of one of our housekeepers, they will be able to complete your laundry and ironing within your home as well as any other duties you may need help with.

Preparing meals and snacks

Adhering to strict dietary requirements and personal preferences is something that all of our assistants are trained to do.  They will be able to prepare delicious and nutritious meals which suit you and your own tastes as well as cleaning up afterwards.

Pet care

Whether this be taking your dog on daily walks, emptying the cat litter tray or simply ensuring your pet is fed and has a fresh bowl of water.  Our services can be tailored to your pets needs to make sure they are getting the best possible care.

Shopping and running errands

Our services are not just confined to the home.  Assistants can go out and about to collect food shopping and other essentials as well as run errands such as going to the post office or picking up prescriptions.

Hobbies and Interests

We also provide support for hobbies and interests, attending events and shows, concierge services and running errands or just popping around for a cup of tea and a chat.  We know that an injury or illness is no reason for these things to stop.  We can support with physical activities like going swimming or out for a walk, accompany to social groups, classes or a day centre.  We will could provide support and companionship on holiday in the UK or abroad.

With Combined Touch you have the peace of mind of a fully regulated service that involves strict checks, in depth training and ongoing support for the carers and personal assistants who join our team. Driving and chaperoning

Getting from A to B isn’t always plain and simple.  That is why our carers can either drive or accompany on public transport to an appointment day or social engagement or simply sight seeing.

A change of routine and environment can be very daunting for someone who is living with dementia.  That is why more families than ever are turning to home care rather than residential care so their loved one can stay in the place they know and love instead of nursing homes.

We at Combined Touch are well trained, specifically in understanding dementia.

Combined Touch is also part of Dementia Action Alliance alongside organisations such as the Alzheimers Society showing a commitment to improving the quality of life of people living with dementia in the UK.

We help people every day both in our day centre and in their homes to cope with the various challenges which come with dementia.  With hundreds of different strains of this, sometimes debilitating condition, and many different stages, one of our hand picked carers will maintain your loved one’s everyday routines and can ease the strain both on the person with dementia and their family, offering an alternative to a care home.
